Speaking Life

Today, it will be a little different. Why? because It is my desire to share with you!

We have probably all heard of affirmations by now. If you haven’t, then hold on. They are the lifeblood of all the motivational speeches unmotivated people diligently seek out. Some even paying exorbitant amounts, just to feel good for an hour or two. Now, there’s nothing wrong with this in most cases. God says we “reap what we sow”, that’s a heavenly principle. Invest in yourself and you will reap the returns. Self-Investment is the best investment.

This past week has been hell. I unlocked a door to a lot of un-dealt with past. My mind is now seeking to process this and in turn, everything can be a trigger. It is a twenty five year emotional weight on my heart. At face value, I’m fine. I go to work, I go to the grocery, I talk and interact with the public like nothing is happening. Like I’m not being taken apart and reprogrammed on a molecular level, (each of our cells holds information good or bad).

At home it’s a totally different story. My bedroom is overrun with clothes to put away. My kid’s room as well. Their cousins are spending some time with us so I have three little girls running through my house, laughing and yelling. Pulling out everything; toys, clothes, art supplies, food, movies. I have a little boy trying to keep up, chasing after them. At two, he already pulls everything out. He doesn’t desire to do anything that he hasn’t decided to do. This includes eating, pottying, playing, watching TV, cleaning up, dressing, and going to bed.

Usually, I keep my house in order and keep my kids on a routine. Normally, I would make sure they clean up after themselves. Usually, we eat whatever is cooked, no short orders. Usually, we don’t do snacks, especially at bedtime. That’s usually. Last night, I sat on my couch and read a book while the girls played and my son watched Sponge-Bob. He didn’t eat his supper and kept getting in the fridge. We ended up sitting on the floor in front of it eating mixed fruit, then went back to the TV. At bedtime (8:45) I told little E that I was putting little T down. We ended up laying in my bed playing on my phone until Trent got home.

Tuesday night I had a meltdown after everyone was in bed. I usually try to be alone when this happens. I try not to bother anyone. BUT, with everywhere full to capacity, I just wrapped myself in my blanket and sat at the foot of my bed and sobbed. I have honestly never cried that hard. I accidentally woke Trent. He came to the foot of the bed and sat with me. He listened to me cry from the darkest part of my soul. He held me as I told him my most disturbing thoughts and feelings. And when I had calmed down, he prayed for me.

It was a heartfelt, deep prayer. It was really touching. He thought I would feel better. He hoped I’d feel better. I didn’t. I told him that. He could tell it anyway. I watched this man I love so much take on a look of hurt, a confused look, a LOST look. He had no idea what to do. I couldn’t tell him what to do either. We were texting the next day while we were at work and, he told me that he almost suggested I take a sick day but, didn’t know if that would trigger me. I told him at this point I’m not sure what would.

SO, I got to thinking and reading and praying and listening. I remembered a book called Conscious Language, the Logos of Now. It was written by an amazing man named Robert Tennyson Stevens. Yes, He’s a Christian and YES, I trust his words. The book talks about upgrading our language. Learning how to speak the way God designed us to.

God has a lot to say about our words:

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruits. – Proverbs 18:21 ESV

11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. – Isaiah 55:11 ESV

19     creating the fruit of the lips.
Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the Lord,
“and I will heal him. – Isaiah 57:19 ESV

29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. – Ephesians 4:29 ESV

33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” – Matthew 12:33-37 ESV

And James 3 close to an entire chapter dedicated to taming our tongues.

God SPOKE the world into existence. Did he need to? No, he’s God. He could’ve done whatever he desired and had the same results if he chose. Jesus SPOKE to those he healed, those he set free. Did he need to? NO. He could’ve held his tongue for his whole life here and accomplished what he purposed to do.

Anyway, this is the Biblical principle behind affirmations. Speaking God’s promises over your life. Understanding that words have power. Affirmations can be positive or negative. You can affirm your illness if you choose. You can affirm your healing as well.

I have put together a list of affirmations, some simple some more specific. I’ll leave them here for you. I encourage you to read them and pick some that resonate with you. Not all of them will and that’s OK. You can modify them to suit your desires. You can pray them. Thanking God that he is fulfilling these words for you even now and now and forever.

This is on my heart because you can pick some and share them with your partner, your friend, your children (Little E says hers at bedtime with her prayers) and, when you need prayer, you need encouragement, they have a tool to help you. They have a point of faith to connect with you. It is a telltale sign to whats going on in your heart and head without going into too much detail.

20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” – Matthew 18:20 ESV

Agreement helps to establish Heaven’s will in your life.

Yes, I know, this is a little left field. It can be a lot to try to process. I encourage you to pray and study up on speech, Biblical speech. And, if you feel so inclined, grab Bob’s book.

As many blessings as this life allows,
